Kalki Krishnamurthy wrote the popular Ponniyin Selvan novels. The book, Manimagudham tells the story of the early days of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola. The book took more than three years to write. Ponniyin Selvan is widely considered by many to be the most excellent novel ever written in Tamil literature.
